Hurting Hearts Verses for Bereaved Parents Compiled by "Ray of Hope"
"A voice is heard in Ramah, mourning and great weeping. Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because her children are no more." This is what the LORD says: "Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears, for your work will be rewarded...So there is hope for your future," declares the LORD. Jeremiah 31:15-17
"Many are asking, 'Who can show us any good?' Let the light of Your face shine upon us, O Lord. You have filled my heart with greater joy than when their grain and new wine abound. I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety." Psalm 4:6-8 In the midst of trials and despair, God is often the only goodness to be found. The joy that the Lord brings far outweighs every celebration or "joy" of material possessions or anything else offered this side of Heaven (including children). His goodness brings a peace that passes all understanding. Even when we cannot understand His ways, He is still good.
1 Samuel 1 - Hannah's story as presented in the July/August, 1998 issue of MEND. A study of Hannah by Priscilla & Aquila Ministries. "If you are a modern day Hannah, I would love to hear from you, as I am one too. The Lord has granted me the precious gift of one child, but I long for others. Please feel free to write me with whatever fertility challenges you may have. Perhaps we can encourage one another through conversation, prayer, and Bible study." Prayer's Faithfulness is a thoughtful sermon on 1 Samuel 1 by Ray C. Stedman of Peninsula Bible Church. The Child Samuel from The Story of Patriarchs and Prophets: As Illustrated in the Lives of Holy Men of Old (chapter 55) by Ellen G. White offers insight into the lives of Hannah and her family, focusing on the child God ultimately blessed them with. |
